Let’s focus on discussing the customization of aluminum profile molds

Heterogeneous profiles are materials made according to building design requirements, not in flat shapes but in various shapes, or with various surface carvings. For a long time, the extrusion molding of plastic profiles has been a relatively weak category in China’s plastic processing industry. Single screw extruders are used, and extrusion molds produce profiles with relatively simple cross-sections at a lower rate (about 1m/min). 1. Section dimension tolerance of profiles

Due to the hot extrusion forming of aluminum, there is a physical phenomenon of “thermal expansion and contraction” in actual production, which directly leads to the inability to accurately control the external dimensions of the profile. In addition, factors that affect size include mold accuracy, extrusion equipment, and extrusion parameters.

For profiles with high precision requirements, in addition to relying on the manufacturer’s production experience, repeated mold repair and trial molding are also essential. Only in this way can qualified samples be extruded. Do you think that with qualified samples, the material size can be guaranteed during mass production?

The answer is “not all”. Why do you say that? Because there is an “extrusion uncertainty” involved, which refers to the fact that the factors that affect aluminum production are constantly changing (such as extrusion temperature, extrusion speed, mold wear, and aluminum straightening). Even the dimensions of the same profile at different positions in the same batch have deviations (ranging from a few wires to more than a dozen wires, and even dozens of wires). The intuitive manifestation is that with high tolerance requirements, the yield is low, which increases the production cost of the manufacturer and inevitably leads to an increase in customer procurement costs.

So, if it can meet your usage requirements, please try not to set the tolerance accuracy too high. Whether in terms of quality, cost, delivery time, or after-sales maintenance, it is beneficial to you.

2. The cross-sectional cavity structure of profiles

According to whether the profile section contains a closed cavity, extrusion molds can be roughly divided into two types: flat molds and split molds! Because the structure of the flat mold is relatively simple, the production difficulty is relatively low. Here we mainly talk about diversion molds. We all know that the hollow part of the profile is the solid part of the mold. The number of cavities, size of cavities, and wall thickness of profiles with enclosed cavities can all affect the difficulty of mold design and processing, as well as the service life of the mold. There are many cavities, making mold design and processing difficult, and the lifespan of the mold is also affected. The cavity size is small, the mold strength is low, and it is easy to fall off blocks, resulting in a low mold life. The wall thickness is thin, the pressure is high, and the material molding is difficult and prone to deformation.

3. External dimensions and meter weight of profiles

The larger the external dimensions of the profile, the larger the required mold specifications. The larger the mold specifications, the larger the corresponding tonnage of the extruder, resulting in higher production costs. Speaking of “rice weight”, as the name suggests, it is the weight of one meter of profiles. The larger the weight of the rice, the higher the tonnage of the press required, and the larger the corresponding mold specifications. The larger the mold specifications, the higher the cost of the mold. Reasonable rice weight can not only reduce material costs, but also lower your production costs.
